Meanings of Terms

  • in-migration- to move or settle into a different part of one's country or home territory. 


  • out-migration-to leave a region, community, etc., to move or settle into a different part of one's country or home territory 


  • forced migration-the coerced movement of a person or persons away from their home or home region.


  • net internal migration- This refers to a change of residence within national boundaries, such as between states, provinces, cities, or municipalities. 

  •  
  • movers from abroad- People who move somewhere different across some sort of line.
     

  • internally displaced person (IDP)- is someone who is forced to flee their home but who, unlike a refugee, remains within their country's borders. At the end of 2006 estimates of 24.5 million in some 52 countries.
